DENTAL HEALTH
And
SPIRITUAL HEALTH
"Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it."
Psalm 81:10
Facts About Dental Health
Keeping good dental health can be very
simple. You can have a bright smile and keep yourself from getting bad
breath, cavities, and gum disease by learning the answers to the following
questions:
Q. How can I take care of my mouth at home?
A. Brush with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day, and floss
once a day to help stop decay between your teeth.
Q. If I brush and floss well, do I still need regular dental
check-ups?
A. Yes. No one can keep their teeth perfectly clean, and regular
check-ups will let your dentist or hygienist remove the plaque and tartar
buildup from your teeth and find any problems while they are still easy to
correct.
Q. How does what I eat affect my teeth?
A. Eating a balanced diet will provide your body with the vitamins
and minerals necessary for healthy teeth and gums. Limit foods that are high
in sugar, such as soft drinks and candy, and enjoy snacks that are good for
you, such as apples, carrots, and popcorn.
Q. How do cigarettes and chewing tobacco affect my mouth?
A. Any products containing tobacco increase your risk of getting oral
cancer. Also, if you smoke, you are very likely to develop periodontal (gum)
disease.
Facts About Spiritual Health
We care about you, not only about your
dental health, but also about your spiritual health. Following are answers
from the Bible to some common questions people often wonder about:
Q. How can I know that there is a God?
A.The Bible says that the beauty and wonder of all that has been
created is proof that God exists (Psalm 19:1, Romans 1:20). In fact, our very
lives depend upon God, who created us in His own image (Genesis 1:27)
Q. Is there life after death?
A. The Bible says that each person God created has a soul that will
never die. After our death on earth, each person will either spend eternity
with God in heaven, or apart from Hem in hell (Matthew 10:28, Hebrews 9:27).
Q. Why doesn't God just accept everyone into heaven?
A. There is one very big difference between us and God: we make
mistakes, while God is perfect. No one could ever be worthy of spending
eternity in the presence of a totally perfect God, because we all are sadly
imperfect. (Romans3:23, 6:23; Hebrews 1:13).
Q. If this is true, than how could it be possible for anyone to end
up in heaven?
A. Because God knows our shortcomings and frailty, He provided the
way by which we can be saved. The way of salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ
which gives forgiveness.
(II Corinthians 5:21, John 14:6, Romans 5:8).
Q. Why is faith in Jesus Christ necessary?
A. Jesus did what we cannot do, He kept the law of God perfectly.
When He willingly died on a cross, He was suffering the punishment that we
deserve. His death and resurrection brought about the forgiveness of those
that belong to Him through faith (Romans 5:8, Colossians 2:13,14)
Q. What does it mean to belong to Christ through faith?
A. True faith in Christ is not just believing in Him for something
temporary, such as safety when we travel or help in a crisis. It is also not
just agreeing in our minds to the facts concerning His death and
resurrection. Just as knowing how to brush our teeth does not really help us
unless we actually brush, merely knowing about Christ does not help us unless
we act upon that knowledge through faith (Matthew 7:21, James 2:26). True
saving faith is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for our salvation (Acts 4:12).
Q. How can I become a Christian?
A. Pray to God and admit to Him that you are a sinner and that there
is nothing you can do to earn eternal life for yourself. Commit your life to
following Christ and receive that forgiveness for your sins that can set you
free to serve and love Him. If you truly seek God with all your heart, you
will find Him, and He will give you a joy and a peace that the world cannot
take away (Jeremiah 29:13; Philippians 4:7; John 1:12; 8:31,32,36; Romans
10:9).
When you place your faith in Christ you begin an incredible journey,
fulfilling God's plan for your life. If you have placed your faith in Christ
today or if you have some questions.
